Avoid Labeling Yourself

Waypoint Message

You are not your worst moments, your biggest struggles, or your current limitations. When you slap labels on yourself like "I'm stupid," "I'm awkward," or "I'm a failure," you're reducing your entire complex self to one small piece of your story. These labels become mental prisons that limit what you believe is possible for yourself. The truth is, you are constantly growing, changing, and learning. Instead of defining yourself by temporary struggles, you can describe specific situations or behaviors. You are a whole person with unlimited potential, not a fixed label.

Success Strategies

1. Replace the Label
Instead of “I’m bad at this,” try: “I’m struggling with this part right now.” It leaves room for growth.

2. Flip the Script
Catch a label and rewrite it:
“I’m shy” → “I’m learning to speak up more.”

3. Notice the Context
Ask yourself: “Was that true just today or just in this moment?” Most labels shrink when you zoom out.
